There is nothing more frustrating than grilling at night and not being able to see when your meat or vegetables are finished cooking. That reduces it to guesswork, and I don’t like cooking by guesswork. I can never find a flashlight or a headlamp when I need them, losing valuable cooking time to rummage through my drawers to find light. A headlamp works okay, but the flashlight is the worst , having to hold it the whole time. Grill lights are the solution to this problem, and they work great! Simply clamp them to your grill and turn them on and you have bright light when you need it most.

We took a look at the four best grill lights on amazon and put them to the test. We rated them on a scale of 1-5, where one is the worst and five is the best. We looked at each brand through the following important categories: Brightness, Handle Clamp, Durability, and Design. Based on the scores and other unique factors, we came up with an Overall Score for each grill light.

Each brand has a short summary and a full, in-depth analysis. You can look at the table below for a quick overview of how each brand ranked. Click on the brand’s individual page to get more information.

Cave Tools BBQ Grill Lights

The light this tool gives out is very bright, certainly more than enough to carry on safely grilling when the sun sets. It has three settings anyway, so you can pump up the brightness as it gets darker, which makes the batteries last longer. It’s also waterproof, so if it rains you can keep grilling. Any chef worth their title has grilled in the rain. That’s not to say you can go chucking this barbeque light in the pool, it’s rainproof, not scuba gear.

Despite this not being a cooking implement, it still comes with access to Cave Tools online recipes, and of course is covered by their lifetime satisfaction guarantee.

This Product Is Ranked as the #1 Pitmaster’s Choice In The Grill Lights Category

Brinkmann BBQ Grill Lights

The Brinkmann BBQ grill light is about 9” long and 2” high and wide. It’s made from black, heat resistant plastic. The light is provided by two bright LEDs mounted on the top edge of the light on two separate arms. Each arm moves independently, and this movement also switches the lights on and off. It takes 3 AAA batteries and is shower proof. The barbecue light comes with two rubber band type clips to secure the light to the handle of the grill.

A BBQ flashlight is a useful addition to your grilling tool kit, but it seems Brinkmann have done all they can to put you off buying this one. There are far better designed, made and brighter grill flashlights out there, so I can’t recommend this one at all.

Char-Broil Flexible Grill Lights

This particular Char-Broil barbecue light is a nice idea poorly executed. The clamp is a good feature, a fully adjustable way to attach the light almost anywhere. Unfortunately, I found that it doesn’t close all the way down, at least not tight enough to grip the thin metal of most grills. It also doesn’t work on round metal, like grill handles, although you might have more luck with a square one. The clamp is also not that sturdy, so you can’t go tightening it with a wrench or lever.

Overall then, I like the design, and would recommend the Char-Broil barbeque light if they made the clamp sturdier, the battery box waterproof and more solid, and the light brighter.

Weber Grill Out Handle Light

I think it looks like a giant whistle, but this little Weber BBQ light works very well. It lights up a square area of the grill with about the right amount of brightness, certainly for me. You can always fit two of these grill lights if you think one isn’t enough, and if you put them each end of the handle you can illuminate your work area at the same time.

The Weber LED light can be left permanently attached to the grill, as it’s fully water and heat resistant. This is very useful, as you know exactly where it is when it comes to barbecue time. Personally, I wouldn’t leave this light attached all year, unless you store the grill away indoors during the off season, if you have such a thing.
