Meat Shredding Claws Review Scores
Cave Tools Meat Shredding Claws
They aren’t just pulled pork claws, they can be used for all kinds of tasks, but shredding meat is what they do best. They can be used as a pair for shredding large pieces of meat such as a whole pig, or you can use one to hold smaller pieces and shred with the other. If you aren’t using the barbecue meat claws to shred your meat, they can also be used to move hams and poultry etc. from the smoker to the kitchen for instance. You can even use one of the meat shredding claws and a carving knife to slice hams and other meat that don’t need shredding.
A word of warning here. These meat shredding claws aren’t called bear claws for nothing. They’re very sharp, so keep them out of the hands of children and Wolverine wannabes. Treat them like carving knives and you won’t go wrong.
Char-Broil Bear Claw Shredder
One good design feature is the way the two bear paws fit together when not in use. By turning one of them around, the handle of one becomes the cover for the spikes of the other. This makes them easier and much safer to store. They are also totally dishwasher safe, so cleaning up after a barbecue is easy enough.
As pulled pork shredding claws go, these are a budget item, and the safe storage part is a neat idea, but I have concerns about the durability of them. Maybe they’re fine for light or occasional use, but if you intend to do a lot of grilling, there are more sturdy, and more useful, barbecue claw shredders on the market.
Weber Barbecue Bear Claws
These Weber meat claws are also useful for other tasks around the kitchen and barbecue. For instance, the sharp tines will puncture many food items, and so can be used when slicing fruit and vegetables, as well as meat. They make the handling of hot or cold food simpler and more comfortable, with less chance of slipping.
For a Weber product, I found these BBQ meat forks a little disappointing. I wouldn’t say they were flimsy, they’re strong enough material wise. But the middle two tines are held together with a flat metal clip, and so are effectively only welded at one end. This is because they had to leave a space to put your fingers around the handle, and so the two center tines aren’t as well attached as they could be. They didn’t fail in the time I used them, but I can’t see these particular grilling claws lasting a lifetime.
OXO Bear Paws Meat Handlers
The teeth are sharp, and shred pulled pork with ease, although they aren’t as good on firmer meats like chicken. The two BBQ meat paws are designed so you can interlock their teeth, forming a twelve pointed shredder for faster shredding. I didn’t get on with this function, as they aren’t so easy to hold in that configuration. The teeth can also interlock point to point, forming a shape like a two handed grip. This is supposed to be for moving your shredded meat around, but I never quite trusted it, particularly over longer distances.
