These pig tail food flippers by Jaccard come as a set of two. They’re made from surgical grade stainless steel with a polished finish. The handles are made from wood, and each has a hanging loop made of leather. The hooks are curved and have a sharp point. The pair are 12” and 19” in length, from the tip to the end of the handle.

Pigtail meat turners are used for turning, flipping and moving food around, both on the grill and in the kitchen. They can also be used for dipping food in batter, etc. without losing the food in the liquid. There’s a set of two here, a long one for reaching over the heat without burning yourself, and a shorter one for more precise control and easier dipping.

The points are nice and sharp, but quite small to avoid making too large a hole in the meat and losing the juices. The handles are rounded and fit well in the hand. The manufacturers claim they reduce the potential for carpal tunnel injuries, although I’m not sure how. This can only be a good thing, if it is indeed true, particularly if you use them a lot.

They seemed sturdy enough in use, even on the heaviest of meats, although I have some concern over the longevity of the join between handle and shaft. It’s a tang and ferrule system, and so  prone to failure if not done properly. Only time will tell if this is the case. It also appears that some models of this pigtail meat flipper come with black plastic handles, so this point might be irrelevant to you.

One very good thing about these pig tail BBQ flippers is, if you get the version with wooden handles, they’re lacquered for protection, which means they can go in the dishwasher after use. Other manufacturers take note. So they’re very easy to clean, not that they’re difficult anyway.
