Culina salad spinners are made from green and white, BPA free plastic. The unit consists of three parts; a lid with a crank handle, a draining basket, and a clear bowl. It measures approximately 9”x 10” x 10”. The basket has a capacity of 5 quarts. The bottom of the bowl has three large feet for grip and stability. The lid also features a brake button that stops the rotation instantly.
One of the best features of this large salad spinner is the positioning of the handle. It’s on the side of the unit, which means you can use one hand to steady the unit, and the other to turn it. It has three large feet underneath to stop it moving around while you use it. The handle moves smoothly with little effort, the basket spins up to some impressive speeds, making drying quicker and more efficient. The brake button also works as it should, actually stopping the basket instantly, not just slowing it down.
The basket of the quick dry salad spinner has a capacity of around five quarts, more than large enough for most families. You can dry other things of course, not just salad, and the clear bowl doubles as a serving bowl.
There are a couple of downsides to the design of this salad spinner bowl set. First, because of the spinning mechanism, the lid can’t go in the dishwasher, you have to hand wash it and make sure it’s thoroughly dry. The second, and despite the manufacturers claims, this unit isn’t easy to store. The top of the unit is round, so I wouldn’t recommend stacking anything on top of it. But the main problem with the Culina salad spinner is the handle, which always, and I mean always, gets tangled in something when you put it in or take it out of a cupboard.
If you don’t mind the two points I mentioned above, this is a fair salad spinner for the money, quite robust, and there’s something very satisfying about the way it works.
